Ray Sample has a passion for life and for sharing his love for Jesus
through song.
Equally at home up the tallest available tree or in front of audiences of all sizes, his number one goal is to
draw nearer to Jesus and take his listeners with him.
Ray Sample has dedicated his voice and life to sharing the message of a soon coming Savior that
loves and cares for His own.
Both a singer and a songwriter, Ray feels a special kinship to King David and we like to refer to
him as the “Sweet Singer of Israel.” Ray feels that God has called him to share a special message in song to a dying
planet.
Ray started to sing when he was only two years old. The first time he sang up front was quite
impromptu. His father was playing the trumpet for special music in church and his mother was playing the piano, so she took
Ray up with her and set him on the bench beside her, facing the audience. The tune was one that Ray recognized so he
started singing at the top of his lungs! Needless to say the audience was much more interested in Ray's singing than his dad's trumpet
playing.
From then on he sang with all his heart the old hymns are still his favorite songs to sing to this day. He
loves to sit and create new arrangements to the old favorites, like Amazing Grace, and Be Thou My Vision. He also
enjoys writing his own compositions. Realizing that without the help of Jesus he would never be where he is
today.
Ray sang soprano till he was 17, even performing the Messiah as a soprano in a college level choir. When his
voice began to deepen, he never lost his falsetto range up to the soprano high C even though he can now reach into the
baritone range.
Ray's tenor voice simply soars with a joyful melody that truly warms the heart and lifts the spirit. His fresh
arrangements of well known hymns as well as his original compositions are capturing the hearts of many and directing the
minds of those that hear him to their Creator.
Back in May of 2007 Ray got married and now shares his vision of a music ministry with his wife
Crystal. She also has a love for music, singing ever since she can remember up front in church with her sisters. Ray
enjoys singing with his new wife as well and hopes to write duets for the two of them in the future. He knows that God has
placed Crystal in his life for a reason. Ray's parents, Jack and Elana Sample who are now preparing to go over to Papua New Guinea, have
also partnered with Ray in this music ministry. Elana plays the piano and Jack is part of the music development
team as well as handling the support details and public relations. They will be missed when they are gone however as
Ray knows, the Lord will provide all our needs through the richness of his understanding.
