My Heart Sings
Someone who knows Ray very well had this to say about him.
Ray Sample has a passion for life and for sharing his love for Jesus through song. Ray Sample loves to sing about his Creator. He also writes some of his own music.
Equally at home up the tallest available tree or in front of audiences of all sizes, his number one goal is to draw nearer to Jesus and take his listeners with him.
Ray Sample has dedicated his voice and life to sharing the message of a soon coming Savior that loves and cares for His own.
Both a singer and a songwriter, Ray feels a special kinship to King David and we like to refer to him as the “Sweet Singer of Israel.” Ray feels that God has called him to share a special message in song to a dying planet.
Ray started to sing when he was only two years old. The first time he sang up front was quite impromptu. His father was playing the trumpet for special music in church and his mother was playing the piano, so she took Ray up with her and set him on the bench beside her, facing the audience. The tune was one that Ray recognized so he started singing at the top of his lungs! Needless to say the audience was much more interested in Ray's singing than his dad's trumpet playing.
From then on he sang with all his heart the old hymns are still his favorite songs to sing to this day. He loves to sit and create new arrangements to the old favorites, like Amazing Grace, and How Great Thou Art. He also enjoys writing his own compositions. Realizing that without the help of Jesus he would never be where he is today.
Ray's tenor voice simply soars with a joyful melody that truly warms the heart and lifts the spirit. His fresh arrangements of well known hymns as well as his original compositions are capturing the hearts of many and directing the minds of those that hear him to their Creator.

One of Ray's favorite memories from singing, happened in Bonners Ferry Idaho. This is the story as told by Ray.
I was out on a walk on a cold winter morning in Idaho, a skim layer of snow on the ground and cold frosty air leaving whispers of crystal from the warmth of my breath. My dad and I were walking to a 400 foot cliff overlooking the Kootenai river and as we walked we enjoyed the sounds of nature around us. When we reached the cliff we stood overlooking the grandeur of nature, with the river running by below us and the mountains spread out in front of us. As is so often our custom we both started singing, the hymn, How Great Thou Art spilled out from our lips in praise to our God who had given us such a beautiful morning to enjoy with Him. When we came to the first chorus, the words of the chorus filled us and we sang them out in echoing reverberations across the river. "Then Sings my soul" as the words flowed out of us, we heard a call in response to our Praise, the cry of a turkey joined ours echoing our song from the other side of the River. Both Dad and I just started laughing out loud in sheer enjoyment as we realized that even the animals love to sing to their creator. Literally this is what happened, as we sang, "Then Sings my soul" gobble gobble gobble gobble.
